You may have an aerator motor in your septic system.  This is a mechanical motor designed to draw fresh outside air into your system's center compartment.  The air travels to the aerator, through the aerator shaft, and is injected into the liquid to provide the oxygen required for the treatment process.

There are different brands and models of aerators.  Two major brands in our area are Jet and Norweco.  Also some are labeled "standard" and others are considered "flood-proof" models.  The flood proof model is designed to be totally sealed to protect it from damage by water should a malfunction occur with your system.  It is not designed to operate under water.  If it floods, the circuit breaker on the control panel will automatically open, shut off power to the aerator, and light the aerator warning light on the control panel.  If this happens, it will be necessary for you to press the red circuit breaker reset button to start the aerator again.  The warning light and circuit breaker reset button are located on the control panel cover.  If the aerator warning light comes on repeatedly and will not reset, it will be necessary to call for service to determine the problem.

We offer installation of new aerators, as well as repair of some existing models.  If your aerator is in need of repair, we can get you an estimate before determining if you would like to have your current model fixed or purchase a new one.
